Radon & thoron progeny monitor (Working Level monitor)

Part Number
RPM 2200
Manufacturer
SARAD RPM 2200

The RPM 2200 is a instrument designed to measure the concentration of radon (Rn-222) and thoron (Rn-220) progeny in the air, typically expressed in working levels (WL). This monitor is crucial for assessing radiation exposure, especially in occupational and environmental settings.

  1. Air Sampling:

    • The RPM 2200 uses an air pump to draw a continuous sample of air through a filter.
    • Radon and thoron progeny, which are attached to aerosol particles in the air, get collected on this filter.
  2. Detection and Measurement:

    • The collected progeny on the filter undergo radioactive decay, emitting alpha particles.
    • The RPM 2200 is equipped with solid-state silicon detectors to detect these alpha particles.
    • The device measures the alpha particle activity, which is proportional to the concentration of radon and thoron progeny.
  3. Working Level Calculation:

    • The monitor calculates the potential alpha energy concentration (PAEC) of the progeny.
    • PAEC is then converted into Working Levels (WL), a unit that represents the combined effect of radon progeny radiation on lung tissue

SARAD

SARAD was founded in 1993. The company started as service provider assessing radioactive polluted properties with regard to their later decontamination. After a short time, the company started to develop electronic measuring instruments. In 1994, SARAD launched their first radon monitor. Since 1997, the development and manufacturing of premium measuring equipment have become the pillars the company is built on. Due to its positive business performance, the company was able to move into its own corporate building in 2000. Step by step the range of products has been extended over the following years.
